Active and sustainable travel

23 June 2022 (by Ashlea Stevenson (ashlea.stevenson))

Elm Park Primary is continuing to work hard to encourage families to travel actively at least once a week throughout the year, as well as promoting a five-minute car free zone around school. This will have a threefold impact: making it safer, reducing emissions and boosting health.

For anyone who must drive to school we suggest ‘park and stride’. Parking a few minutes’ walk away will increase the amount of exercise in your day and have a big impact on the number of cars arriving at the school gates.

Walking, cycling or scooting to school is a great chance to bring people together, talk and engage with the environment, enjoying the journey without getting caught up in traffic jams and exhaust fumes. If we put our minds to it there are plenty of journeys we can make more active and sustainable.

Next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday staff will be issuing raffle tickets which will be put into a bag and drawn on Friday where there will be an array of prizes for children who have travelled to school in an actively sustainable way.

Thank you for your continued help!
