Gallows Corner Update from TFL

28 August 2025 (by Ashlea Stevenson (ashlea.stevenson))

Dear all,

I am writing to provide you with an update on the Gallows Corner flyover refurbishment.

As you are aware, Gallows Corner remains closed to all vehicle traffic, with only emergency vehicles, black cabs and Transport for London buses able to use the junction while we complete this refurbishment, essential to ensuring the safety and reliability of the road network for decades to come. To avoid the inconvenience of separate future road closures in the area, we are also working with Essex & Suffolk Water, who are replacing an ageing water main at the same time as the work on the flyover.

While good progress has been made with the flyover renewal, unforeseen problems with the condition of the ground around the water main have caused a delay to the completion of this water main replacement. Elements of the work across both the water main and flyover are now anticipated to continue beyond September.

We’re working closely with Essex & Suffolk Water to complete the renewal of both vital pieces of infrastructure and minimise any further delay. We are very sorry for the disruption caused to all drivers, local residents and businesses by this.

Travel advice

As schools return, roads in the local area to Gallows Corner junction and wider vicinity are expected to be very busy and disruption to vehicle journeys should be expected for the duration of the closure.

For local journeys through the area consider taking the bus rather than your private vehicle for a more direct journey to your destination.

For longer distance journeys that are non-stopping in the Gallows Corner area, use the M25 for the M11 or A13 to complete your journey.

For any journey during the closure leave more time for your journey and where possible, travel outside of peak times.

Always check before you travel and plan ahead.

For more information and travel advice see our website at https://tfl.gov.uk/gallows-corner or for more information including project progress updates visit the Gallows Corner project webpage.
I will share further updates as they become available.

Best,

Dylan
